Building Systems Self-Paced Training Course

The Building Systems self-paced course explains the details of the various building systems that are the foundation of the construction industry. Starting from the ground up, we analyze the basic components, materials and techniques that comprise the buildings we see every day.

This course was designed specifically for novice estimators and those outside of the construction industry to help them gain an understanding of the basic systems one would encounter in new construction, renovation and facilities management. It explores typical industry processes, why specific materials are used together and how various systems in a building are interconnected.

By explaining the physical relationships between building components, while introducing key construction industry terminology and avoiding overly technical explanations one might expect in an engineering-based course, this course is ideal for professionals transitioning into a construction or facilities oversight position or non-construction professional involved in capital improvement projects.

Enroll in this course to gain an understanding of the six basic building systems encountered in commercial buildings, as well as:

  • Various components within each system

  • Why various components are used to create the system

  • A basic outline of the building process

  • Common materials and techniques used in vertical construction

  • Building envelope and weatherization components

  • Load-bearing floor and wall systems

  • Key terminology employed in building construction

Today's business professionals are spread very thin. Instead of focusing on one area of expertise, management now requires that you wear multiple hats. As a result, new areas of understanding are required to manage a company. Experienced professionals can expand their understanding of the building process and its various systems by enhancing or clarifying what they know and creating a depth of knowledge that allows them to make better business decisions.

The course is delivered in six separate Lessons than can be viewed or listened to in 20-30 minute increments, thereby reducing the demand for an extensive commitment of time.
