Plan Reading & Material Takeoff

Objectives
This two-day program teaches attendees to read and understand construction documents and to use them in the preparation of material takeoffs.

Approach
The objective of this seminar is two-fold.

First is to provide the participant with the skills necessary to read and understand typical contract documents - blueprints and specifications, everything from civil and site drawings to mechanical and electrical drawings. Details and symbols used by architects and engineers to convey essential information are explained. Construction specifications are reviewed in detail to illustrate their importance in conjunction with blueprints.

The second part of the program centers on the proper procedures for doing an accurate takeoff of construction materials. Sound, practical training in the industry-accepted takeoff methods are emphasized. Upon completion, attendees will be able to determine and record the quantities of materials and work contained in construction documents, verify quantities with contractors, take the initial steps in preparing a construction budget, and analyze submission of bids.

Who should attend?
