Background
RSMeans conducted a MeansCostWorks.com product survey that was emailed to customers during mid-August. Any participant who responded by Friday, August 17th qualified for a drawing to win a $100 AMEX gift certificate. Congratulations to our $100 drawing recipient:

The survey contained 11 questions and was designed to be completed quickly. Our purpose was to measure the product's overall usefulness, ease of use, ease of learning, and customer's satisfaction. The questions were logically grouped with an answer scale ranging from “Strongly Agree” to “Strongly Disagree”. In instances where the end-user inputs “Strongly Disagree” or “Disagree”, we left a blank text box to provide a reason.
Findings
The survey category “Usefulness” measures whether the system allows our customers to get done the things they need to get done. In this category, an overwhelming percentage of survey participants agreed or strongly agreed that the system was effective at getting the things done that they need to get done. As an example, one customer responded, "It really does help & it makes it easier than the RSMeans cost books." Another customer writes, "For my short time using this program, I find the support staff and the program to be very helpful and willing to get you going! Thanks and keep up the good work!"
The survey category “Ease of Use” measures whether the system is easy for our customers to use. While the majority of respondents felt the product was easy to use, we also received some valuable feedback in areas where we could improve. Customers responded in this category with many good product suggestions ranging from things such as implementing an "AutoSave" function to improving the method of creating user-defined lines.
“Ease of Learning” measures whether the end-user found it easy to get started using the system. We are pleased to report that almost all survey participants agreed that the system was easy to learn. Lastly, the “Satisfaction” metric measures whether the end-user is satisfied with their purchase. Based on the results of the previous metrics, it is not surprising that the vast majority of survey respondents were satisified with their MeansCostWorks.com purchase.
Conclusions
The survey results confirm many of our assumptions regarding the product's ease of use, learning, usability and satisfaction. More importantly, the survey results provide a framework for us to continuously improve the product. The good news is that many of the things you told us are planned for upcoming product releases. For example, many customers stressed the need for Square Foot Estimating capabilities to be implemented within the product. This enhancement is planned to be deployed before year-end.
RSMeans would like to thank all survey participants for their feedback as it helps us improve the product for our customers. We look forward to your continued survey participation to help guide the MeansCostWorks.com product development.
